After defending his doctoral dissertation, Moisey Gendelman was sent to Akmolinsk to help establish a new agricultural institute. He became deputy director for research and teaching and headed a department. Gendelman was rector of the institute from 1961 to 1982.
His field of research was land management. From 1982 to 1989, he headed a department, and until 1994 he led a specialist laboratory for land management and the land cadastre. With his involvement, teaching and laboratory buildings, student residences and housing for lecturers were built for the institute.
In May 2011, Gendelman’s daughter Svetlana donated 14 archival units containing documents from 1933 to 2005 to the State Archive of Astana. They included a biography, material about his work, books, awards, letters of congratulations and photographs.
According to archivist Elena Kulakova, Gendelman’s publication list contains 230 works. He supervised 45 Candidates of Sciences and eight Doctors of Sciences. In 1968, he received the title of Honoured Scientist of the Kazakh SSR, and in 2002 he became an honorary citizen of Astana. In 2008, a commemorative plaque was installed on the building where he had lived.
