The East Kazakhstan Museum-Reserve holds a postcard from the Warsaw Ghetto. It remained in the Halberstadt family archive for many years before being donated to the museum. Museum staff member Tatyana Svakhina tells the document’s story.
The Jewish collection grew through cooperation between the museum, cultural centres and families who donated personal belongings. Alongside objects of religious life, it includes documents connected with the memory of the Holocaust.
The postcard has two histories. The first concerns its dispatch from the ghetto, and the second its subsequent preservation within the family. The second brought the document to Kazakhstan and made it part of the museum’s collection.
