Herminia Naglerowa, a Polish writer of Jewish origin, was arrested by the NKVD in Lviv in 1940. After being held in Soviet prisons, she was sent to the Burma camp in Kazakhstan. Following her release, she joined Anders’ Army.

Her collection “Ludzie sponiewierani” was published in Rome in 1945. Later, Veritas in London published “Kazachstańskie noce”, whose title translates as “Kazakhstani Nights”. The editorial preface states that the book combines stories and eight testimonies about investigation and imprisonment previously published in the journal “Wiadomości”. The contents include “Chaplin in the Camp”, “Kazakhstani Nights” and “Bread”.
