Askar Tokmagambetov asked Mikhail Davidovich Romm to translate his novel “Father and Son” into Russian. Orazbek Bodykov prepared the interlinear translation. The writer and doctor Max Koyfman recalls this story.
Romm lived in Kyzylorda and Chimkent and translated other works by Tokmagambetov, including the novella “Four Years – Four Hours”. He shared his first and last names with the film director Mikhail Ilyich Romm. Koyfman knew the translator personally and quotes passages from his correspondence with Shimon Markish.
